Finger Knitting

We have had a great time inside today despite the dreary weather outside.  One of our favorite people, Ms. Lisa, came over today to show Rachel how to finger knit.  I couldn't believe how quickly Rachel caught on and she already has a cool new purple scarf.  Ford and Ruby were mesmerized by the balls of yarn that Lisa brought and had just as good of time throwing them around and unraveling them.  Lisa also quickly knitted Ruby a little headband that was just way too cute for words!!  My children love Lisa so much.  Rachel was actually in tears when she had to leave.  She is Ford's Godmother, but Ruby and Rachel know that they are just as important to her.  We would say she fills the role of additional Grandmother, but she's not old enough for that, so we'll say she's like another aunt :)
Before Lisa came, Rachel practiced her lower case "z"s which gets her through all of the lower case letters in her book!  Ford wrote the word LOVE for some writing practice.  Ruby (with some help) wrote the letters H and K for Hello Kitty.  She said, "I write Hello Kitty, Mama!"  Rachel did some more counting to 20 and review of place value and then read a couple of short books aloud to me.  I am continually amazed at how quickly she is able to decode words.
I think this afternoon we'll go ahead and get our Valentine's Day cookies made so that we can deliver them early in the morning.  I feel sure we'll stop and visit at lots of places and will need the whole morning to get those all over town.  It should be a great morning to catch up with people that are important to us.  School work may have to take a backseat, but that's part of the beauty of homeschooling :)
